Before you contact us
The Commission investigates every discharge of a duty firearm by a sworn officer, and independently reviews concerns connected with body-worn camera activation, retention, and access under the Police Armament and Body-Worn Recording Act 2026. If you witnessed a firearm discharge, believe a camera should have been activated and was not, or believe a footage access request was wrongly refused, you can raise it with the Commission.
What happens next
The Commission preserves relevant evidence, including body-worn footage, and investigates independently of the officer's chain of command. Where a discharge causes death, the Commission conducts an enhanced investigation addressing the circumstances, necessity, proportionality, command decisions, training, equipment, and any systemic factor, recording its reasons even where it concludes matters promptly (Section 5B).
